Born on Jan. 19th, 1946, in Locust Ridge Tenn into a poverty-stricken family which would later consist of 12 children Dolly Parton learned early to escape the hardships of living through her vibrant and broad imagination. Before learning how to read or write Dolly Parton had already begun to compose her own songs. In 8 years, she had her very first guitar. When she was 11 years old she started singing at the Knoxville Tennessee radio station. The same year she released her first record on Gold Band Records a tiny independent label. While in high school, she was able to establish herself within the local community, however her ambition was bigger. The singer moved to Nashville shortly after her graduation in 1964. Dumb Blonde was her first album to be charted at the top of Monument Records. In the year 1967, Porter Wagoner was looking for an actress to sing for his television show that was syndicated. Parton was signed to RCA Records and then joined the Grand Ole Opry. She took on the role in 1967. Parton left the show however, in 1974 due to her albums on her own like Joshua Coat Of Many Colors and Jolene beat out their collaborative albums.
