Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speaking. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency which hosts videos and commentary analyzing portrayals of women in popular media. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is an educational non-profit website that explores the representations of females in the popular media narratives. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in pop culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women as well as other classes of the Internet environment. Sarkeesian holds a bachelor's degree in political thought and social theory from York University. She is also an internationally acclaimed public presenter. Sarkeesian delivered speeches to the TEDxWomen XOXO Fest and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Passionate about issues of gender and feminism since the age of 7, she started her website Feminist Frequency in 2009, while studying at the University. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the representation of gender in video games was targeted by the internet campaign. However, the attacks did not hinder her. It only strengthened her as a feminist journalist. Numerous awards have been awarded to her for her contributions to the field she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic, has been awarded numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency which is an educational non-profit that examines the ways women are depicted within media narratives.
